Preparing for Trailer Delivery
How delivery is quoted, what the driver needs when they arrive, how to receive the trailer and check it over, and what to have ready if you are picking up in Selbyville instead.
How delivery works
Every trailer we sell is an individual in-stock unit at our Selbyville, Delaware location. You can collect it yourself or have it delivered.
Delivery is quoted per order. Where your delivery zone has a published rate, that rate appears at checkout. Where it does not, we send a written freight quote by email before any delivery charge applies, and delivery is not scheduled until you accept it. The quote depends on distance, the trailer's size and weight, and whether the trailer can be towed behind a truck or needs to go on a flatbed.
If you have not received a delivery quote, you have not been charged for delivery.
Before the trailer ships
- Confirm the delivery address and contact. A street address the driver can reach with a truck and trailer, and a phone number for the person who will be there. If the address is a job site, a farm or a rural property, note gate codes, landmarks and anything that makes the entrance easy to miss.
- Check the approach. A loaded transport needs room to turn in and room to turn around or pull through. Overhead lines, low branches, soft ground after rain and tight culverts are the usual problems. If the driver cannot safely get in, the trailer is dropped at the nearest workable point.
- Know who is signing. The person receiving the trailer signs for it. That can be you or someone you authorize in writing; tell us in advance.
- Have your documents sorted. The MCO and bill of sale travel with the trailer or are sent separately as arranged. Have somewhere dry and secure to put them.
When the trailer arrives
Walk around before you sign. This is the moment to note anything that does not match the listing or that was damaged in transit:
- VIN plate matches the paperwork.
- Tires, wheels and fenders undamaged; lug nuts present.
- Lights, marker lamps and reflectors intact. Plug the trailer into a 7-way RV socket if you have one and check lights and brakes.
- Coupler, latch, chains, breakaway cable and jack present and working.
- Doors, ramp door and ramps operate; gate latches on a dump trailer close; hoist lifts and lowers.
- Interior clean and dry on an enclosed unit; D-rings and E-track as listed.
- Keys for locks, remotes for dump trailers, spare tire if included.
Note any transit damage on the delivery paperwork before the driver leaves and photograph it. Email sales@trailvant.com the same day so it is on record.
After delivery
- Park on firm, level ground, chocked, with the tongue jack on a pad.
- Check tire pressure against the sidewall; tires often ship below pressure.
- Read the manufacturer's break-in guidance. Most call for retorquing lug nuts after the first 50 and 100 miles, and adjusting electric brakes after the first few hundred.
- Register the trailer with your state agency using the MCO and bill of sale.
- Charge the breakaway battery and, on dump trailers, the pump battery before first use.
Picking up instead
Pickup is by appointment at 67 Duke St Ext, Selbyville, DE 19975. Email sales@trailvant.com after checkout to arrange a time. Bring:
- Government-issued photo ID matching the name on the order.
- A tow vehicle with a hitch and ball that matches the trailer's coupler, 2 in. or 2-5/16 in. as shown on the listing, at a height that sets the trailer level.
- A working trailer light connector. Most of our trailers use a 7-way RV plug; a brake controller is needed to use the trailer's electric brakes.
- Safety chain attachment points on the hitch and a place to clip the breakaway cable.
We cannot release a trailer to a vehicle that cannot connect to it correctly. If you are unsure what your vehicle has, email a photo of the hitch and plug before your appointment. Your vehicle's tow and hitch ratings are on its door-jamb label and in its manual; please check them before you come.
Change of plans
You can cancel before the trailer is picked up or dispatched for delivery by emailing sales@trailvant.com, and the amount paid is refunded to the original payment method. Once a trailer has left with you or with a carrier, the sale is complete and any concern with the unit is handled under the manufacturer warranty where one applies.
