Dump Trailers: common questions

Scissor hoist or telescopic hoist?

A scissor hoist multiplies lifting force under the bed and handles uneven, heavy loads well. A telescopic cylinder mounts at the front and gives a steeper dump angle. The Hoist row on each listing states which the unit has.

Gooseneck or bumper-pull dump?

Gooseneck dump trailers carry more weight over the truck's rear axle and tow more stably, but need a bed-mounted hitch. Bumper-pull units work with a receiver hitch and are easier to share between trucks.

What does the battery do?

The hydraulic pump runs off a 12-volt battery in the lockable pump box. Many units include a charger that tops the battery up from the 7-way plug while you drive.

How much weight is a 14,000 lb GVWR dump trailer good for?
